Interior Design
Increasingly, our interior living and working spaces are being developed for a more sophisticated society. Interior designers are trained to create highly functional, comfortable, safe, and aesthetically-pleasing environments inside commercial and residential buildings. The Interior Design program at Central Piedmont will prepare you to design the interior spaces of today and tomorrow using the best of today's technology.
What You Will Learn
Our curriculum is designed to prepare you for a variety of job opportunities in the fields of both residential and non-residential interior design. The focus of the studies is technical knowledge, professional practices, and aesthetic principles. Curriculum content includes residential, commercial, and institutional interior design, architectural drafting, computer-aided design, and universal design. Also included are basic design, history of interiors and furnishings, color theory, products, business practices, graphic presentations, and general education courses. Coursework also includes the principles of sustainable and green design. Upon completion of the interior design program, you will:
- have acquired the skills and knowledge to competently design both residential and commercial interior spaces using the latest in products, finishes, textiles, and furnishings in a way that will meet client needs and budget
- be able to produce, by hand and computer-aided design, pictorial presentations of design schemes using industry accepted techniques in perspective drawing and color rendering, and basic model building skills
- have developed an understanding of building and accessibility codes and the basic technical aspects of design and construction
- have demonstrated the ability to produce construction working drawings that are both code compliant and up to excepted industry standards
- have been exposed to interior design business practices, including business ethics, and will be prepared for employment interviews and the professional work environment
Graduates qualify for a variety of jobs dealing with interiors, including residential and commercial interior design, set design, showroom design, and sales positions for furniture, textiles, and accessories.
