Medical Office Administration
Administrative professionals are overseeing and coordinating the office procedures for several of today’s leading companies. Business owners are increasingly turning to their administrative professionals for office management expertise, support, and efficiency. You are skilled at multitasking and organizing. In a team workplace, you are a strong communicator who is empathetic to the needs of doctors, medical assistants, and patients. Medical office assistants enjoy managing the operations of the office through time management; they are at ease with using technology because they know that it helps get the job done. Enroll in the Medical Office Administration program at Central Piedmont and earn an Associate of Applied Science or a certificate in medical office administration.
What You Will Learn
You will become well-versed in medical and legal terms, insurance claims, and legal and ethical topics. Program training includes efficient typing, computing inventory, overseeing budgets and finances, and handling cash transactions. You will train with popular technology systems and software for coding, maintaining records, scheduling appointments, transcribing information, creating documents and files, gathering electronic resources, and communicating with patients and vendors. The coursework emphasizes professional development so that you are prepared for the industry. Upon completion of the program, you will be able to:
- evaluate and use appropriate oral and written communication for an office environment; this will include use of proper spelling, grammar, and solid sentence structure when speaking and writing business correspondence
- integrate computer applications to create professional deliverables; you will be expected to select appropriate software to produce documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and complete Internet research
- identify, differentiate, and assess the appropriate procedures to follow in your perspective office environment; this will include knowledge of the terminology used in the industry (e.g. legal or medical) to properly create, format, and/or transcribe perspective documents
Upon program completion, graduates find employment opportunities in medical and dental offices, hospitals, insurance companies, laboratories, medical supply companies, and other healthcare-related organizations.
