What You Will Learn
The Medical Laboratory Technology curriculum prepares you to perform clinical laboratory procedures in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and transfusion medicine that may be used in the maintenance of health and diagnosis/treatment of disease.
Coursework emphasizes mathematical and scientific concepts related to specimen collection, laboratory testing and procedures, quality assurance, and reporting/recording and interpreting findings involving tissues, blood, and body fluids. Upon completion of the program, you will be able to:
- perform entry-level pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical laboratory procedures as outlined in the student handbook and the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) guidelines
- demonstrate critical thinking skills and problem solving abilities in the performance of entry-level laboratory procedures as outlined in the student handbook and the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) guidelines
- demonstrate professionalism in you interaction with faculty, other students, and clinical faculty through such techniques as accepting constructive criticism, maintaining professional composure, demonstrating teamwork, attendance, punctuality, and performing tasks as assigned
Graduates are eligible to take examinations given by the Board of Certification of the American Society of Clinical Pathology. Employment opportunities include laboratories in hospitals, medical offices, industry, and research facilities.
