Teacher Preparation
Everyone has a favorite teacher that helped shape their life — you could be that teacher for a future student. Teachers are in-demand, especially in North Carolina, so take advantage of the opportunities here at Central Piedmont. Earn an Associate in Arts or an Associate in Science in teacher preparation from Central Piedmont and transfer as a junior to a state university for an affordable degree.
What You Will Learn
Study to become a teacher in North Carolina and make a difference in your community. The Associate in Arts (A.A.) and Associate in Science (A.S.) degrees ensure you can transfer to a four-year institution having already fulfilled general education and foundational major-specific course requirements. The Central Piedmont teacher preparation degree includes required education courses and prepares you to transition into the four-year institution and begin observations in the classroom and graduate in two years with a bachelors in education. If you are currently pursuing an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree, you can take the required education courses to earn the teaching preparation degree.
We also offer the Elementary Education Residency Licensure Certificate Program and a high school adjunct instructor certificate.
High School Adjunct Instructor Certificate (Program)
Central Piedmont offers a certificate program that will certify individuals to teach part-time in high schools in North Carolina after participating in a series of educational courses that will support and enhance their pedagogy as an educator.

Why Choose Central Piedmont
Due to our Comprehensive Articulation Agreement with the 17 public universities in North Carolina, you can transfer up to 60 general education and major course credits to a UNC institution — meaning you can enter a four-year, public college as a junior. Many students choose this path in order to not incur a lot of student debt. That's because at Central Piedmont, you can save more than $46,000 in tuition over two years, compared to many four-year schools.
With the Career & College Promise dual enrollment teacher education pathway, you can start studying to be a teacher while you're still in high school — graduate high school having already completed some of the requirements to earn a degree to teach.
Real World Education
At Central Piedmont, your education goes beyond what you learn in class. We offer numerous opportunities for you to enhance your learning — and to make friends, network, and pursue your passions — through clubs and organizations, sports, events and activities, leadership opportunities, job experience, volunteer experiences, visual and performing arts, and even international experiences.
Our [teacher preparation] transfer degrees create seamless pathways for our students to transition into successful teaching careers... This seamless pathway strategy will help ensure the North Carolina K-12 education system flourishes and is recognized as a national model for teacher recruitment and preparation in the United States.
